2010 Pagpakanaug

September 20, 2010.  The statue of St. Michael, the Archangel is officially transferred from his pedestal located at the right side of the altar.  It is moved towards the center of the altar where it will stay for 9 days until the 29th were it will then be brought out of the church for "Procession."

The day also signals the start of the novena for the patron saint.

As the photos shows, the ceremonies starts with the mass celebrated at 7 o'clock in the morning right after which the ritual of the transfer is then conducted by the devotees of the patron saint.

Excitement fills the air as shouts of "Viva Señor San Miguel!" reverberates all throughout the cathedral, while people from all walks of life pushes their way towards the altar to get a glimpse of their beloved patron saint.

The chaotic atmosphere created by the patron saint's devotees dies out only after the official announcement that the ceremony of transfer is over.  The people then starts a very long queue to touch, kiss, rub their hand towels and other cloth at the icon hoping to get powerful favors.  The queue will continue for 9 days, where thousands upon thousands of St. Michael, the Archangel devotees prays for favors and protection as well as assistance from the favored angel of God.
